The Cowbridge Food Marquee plays host to over 80 exhibitors largely from Wales. This includes a high proportion of Vale of Glamorgan Farmers' Market regulars as well as a number of cooking stalls offering produce cooked to order from all corners of the globe.

Wine & Cheese Marque

A huge thank you is due to Filco, our local supermarket provider, who are sponsors of the Cheese and Wine Marquee. This bustling marquee in the Arthur John Car Park site, houses 10 stalls selling predominantly Welsh produce. Filco will be present in the main exhibitors marquee or please visit their store in the High Street and activities in their Car Park to the rear. Back to top

Food Demos


Sponsored by Sigma 3 Kitchens, the Food Demonstration Area offers a wide variety of interesting and fun demos to suit all palates and levels of ability. Attendance is free of charge.

The food demos take place from the True Taste Exhibition Trailer situated in the Town Hall Car Park and represent the finest local chefs. A variety of styles and countries are represented on stage with information sheets provided and tasters available. All free of charge to attend

10.15am Kamran Khanverdi, Taste of Persia

Kamran demonstrates the distinctive ingredients which make up authentic Persian style cuisine. Taste of Persia is a private catering business based in Usk with plans of opening the first traditional and authentic restaurant in South Wales very soon. Taste the Difference.

Martin's demo will include amazing and historical meat drying techniques that you can apply at home for delicious meat and veggie treats.
Martin will be making a jerky recipe from 1804 a native American Indian (Chippewa) recipe called Pemmican, historically used by explorers like Scot of the Antarctic amongst others.

Elisabeth Luard is an award-winning food-writer, journalist and broadcaster whose work is a world tour of flavours and techniques. Her numerous books include European Peasant Cookery, The Food of Spain and Portugal and a personal memoir, Family Life - Birth, Death and the Whole Damn Thing. She has completed 3 years work on Country Living and writes a regular column in Richard Ingram's The Oldie. Her latest book is A Cook's Year in A Welsh Farmhouse.   
A Cook's Year in a Welsh Farmhouse is a month-by-month recipe-diary of life and cooking through the changing year in the foothills of the Cambrians on the western edge of Wales.
Elisabeth will be championing local produce by sourcing her ingredients at the festival itself – cooking from reaction rather than recipe – showing her amazing culinary instincts.
Elisabeth will be available to sign books either directly after the demo or from 2-2.30pm in the main exhibition marquee at Graffeg's stall (D13) where you can purchase a copy.

ffresh Bar & Restaurant is a Wales The True Taste partner with the kitchen team led by Kurt Fleming, a member of the Welsh Culinary Team. The modern and relaxed atmosphere of ffresh permeates the menus which feature the freshest Welsh ingredients, many from Wales The True Taste award-winning producers and chef will incorporate these in the demo.

3.15pm Wayne Thomas, Canteen on Clifton Street www.canteenoncliftonstreet.com
Wayne Thomas is co-chef and co-owner of Canteen on Clifton Street in Cardiff – a vegetarian restaurant that has taken the city by storm. Since opening Canteen has been nominated for numerous award including being shortlisted for the Vegetarian Society Award for Best Vegetarian Food in both 2008 and 2009.
Wayne will be doing making perfect choux pastry, showing its versatility with starter, main and dessert.

Proper Welsh is a delicious, nutritious and Welsh product with so many uses, explored here by Richard.

Loch Fyne restaurant have been in operation now for 21 years, the restaurants key ethos is sustainability and fresh produce.
Loch Fyne Cowbridge, situated on the A48 just outside Cowbridge, has been open for 3 years now and has had its fair share of ups and downs! We now have a very steady team that is enthusiastic about our produce and our menus.
Keith Nicholas has 9 years kitchen experience ranging from Hyatt hotels in India to Raymond Blanc restaurants nationwide. He joined our team back in May and has made some influential changes to our restaurant.

At Arboreal we have a commitment to using the best quality ingredients available, largely organic and sourced as locally as possible. Fresh, seasonal produce is the key.
Summer work on Organic farms in West Wales fuelled Joe's passion for quality seasonal produce and led him to Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland. On return to Wales Joe worked at top Cardiff restaurant, Le Gallois.
At Arboreal, Joe aims to make use of these experiences to create elegant, simple seasonal food based on the best ingredients available and will be cooking Informal food for Sharing at Cowbridge Food and Drink Festival.



3pm Phil Jones, Chef at Great House Hotel Laleston

The Great House Hotel and Leicester's Restaurant is situated between Bridgend and Porthcawl and enjoys a great reputation for excellent food. Holding 2 AA rosettes they have also been awarded South Wales Restaurant of the Year and voted Country restaurant of the year twice.
Their Chef today is Philip Jones who joined the Great House following his formal training at Birmingham College and gaining experience through Europe including 2 years at Mayfair's "Le Caprice" before moving to Bridgend. He continues to produce food which is Welsh and organic where possible with a modern British approach.
Phil will be creating a fresh strawberry bavarois including spun sugar work.

Drinks Talks

Introduced by Richard Ballantyne, the drinks talks are informative, interesting and relaxed and offer samples of some delicious drinks. Also there is an opportunity to buy the produce discussed after the talk. Samples not offered to under 18s.

Wine Development Specialist at Matthew Clark
Richard returns to his home turf having recently completed his Master of Wines dissertation. Richard will share some of his favourite reasonably priced wines for all occasions.

2.15pm James "Arfur" Daley,
Gwatkin Cider with Llanblethian Orchards
Arfur and his partner are local cidermakers, collecting fruit from local orchards. With the help of Gwatkin Cider, they will talk about the process of cidermaking, their local plans and offer tasty cider samples.

Sunday 30th October

1pm Bev "The Beer" Robins
Otley Brewery
Exploring brewing traditions in Wales as part of the "housewife's duties". And celebrating Otley Brewery's past, present and future with the launch of "Oxymoron". Including a few good slurps of light ales and traditional bitters, including past winners of the Champion Beer of Wales.

2.15pm Deryck Matthews Preselli Coffee

How to brew the perfect cup of coffee at home. This demo will cover bean type, the roast, the tamping, water type and water temperature - every aspect of brewing. Also exploring different household coffee gadgets.

Champagne Marquee

For those of you who want the weekend to go with a pop, a visit to the champagne bar is a must. The Quarter Penny Café will be running the bar and the location is courtesy of Lloyds TSB offering a range of champagne to suit all budgets. Alternative alcoholic and soft drinks are also available as well as entertainment from the wonderful Aubrey. Keep your eye out for amazing special Champagne deals over the weekend.

Hands-on interactive fun for everyone to try their hand at juggling, Diablo, stilt walking etc

3.00pm The Magnificent Johno Magic & Puppet Show
One of South Wales' rising stars in the world of children's magicians. A treat for all ages!

4.00pm Cirqu'en Bulles (Sat Only – Town Hall)
The Vale of Glamorgan's Belgiun Twin Town of Mouscron have sent their own circus to Cowbridge for the Festival! They will be around the Town in the afternoon followed by a very special free performance from the troop.

Kids Zone

In the Lesser Hall there will be face painting on offer by Dandy Doodles (FREE OF CHARGE) as well as various craft activities on offer to create a masterpiece to take home or perhaps gifts for family and friends. Activities have a nominal charge towards the materials. We will also be holding several competitions for children. All these activities are available 10-4 Saturday, 11-3 Sunday.

Craft Table – sparkly, coloured, textured materials will be available for children to enjoy various craft activities including card making, and Halloween mask making. (nominal charge to cover materials)
